Lower Sac: , by Luke Geraty: When it rains, it pours… but the fish didn’t mind!: 5 stars Saturday in October can be pretty busy on the Sac but today we got on early and saw relatively few other boats. I'm not sure if it was the torrent of rain that kept a few people off the water or maybe we just got on early enough to avoid the armada of anglers. Either way, we couldn't have had a better day fishing AND catching. These two hooked so many fish we couldn't even keep track of how many and the estimates began to reach proportions that some of y'all would probably accuse of exaggeration. So I'll keep it at this: the bite was ON today. We caught fish on eggs, rubber legs, and a few of the tiny flies that I can't tell you about because I want them to work for as long as I can milk 'em, ha ha! We caught fish in deep water, shallow water, and everything in between. Fish it all! The fishing was so good that we stopped even caring about getting a photo of the 18 inch fish we were catching. "Shake it off and let's get another." Now THAT is a good day! The water was a bit colored up yesterday but today it was back to it's more typical self. Yesterday that worked in our favor because the trout in the salmon redds couldn't see us and we seemed to hook a lot more right next to the boat. Today we had to cast a bit further in order to avoid spooking them, but Mark and Jessica had no problem. What a fun day! It's not all about numbers but it's hard not to enjoy the days when we have steady red hot action all day long. Oh... and I should mention... Mark lost a fish that was in the "Hey-that-might-be-30-inches" category. The fish took a bunch of line and jumped twice and on the second jump spit the hook. I guess you can't have it all! Got a couple days off now so I'm going to try and dry off, go to church, and spend some time with the family. Next week I'm on the Trinity and the Sac, so I'm sure I'll have more to report. Keep dry and enjoy the rain! Next 10 open days for Luke Geraty: Dec 18, Jan 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, 15, 22, 24, Feb 5 |
