Lower Sac: , by Luke Geraty: 10 year olds welcome!: 3 stars Should you bring your kids fishing? Yes. Yes you should. Peter's dad brought him along for a trip to the Upper McCloud and a day drifting down the lower Sac... and he had a great time! Peter learned a number of techniques, including dry/dropper, indicator nymphing, and some tight line nymphing too! And he caught fish on ALL methods on BOTH rivers. Talk about a stud! We also checked under some rocks to see what kind of bugs could be found and saw some other fun things along the way, including lots of birds and a couple of deer. I was super proud of Peter because he didn't complain at all, even when I made lame "dad jokes." We hiked all over the McCloud and on the Lower Sac he became proficient using several methods. Over the course of the day I heard him change his mind on which method was his favorite several times, probably based on which had worked most recently! That's just like me! Ha ha! Anyway, the river is looking good... not a lot of bugs coming off during the day except some microscopic looking PMD's that would be in the size 18-20 range, but there are nymphs! There are always nymphs! Fish are eating rubber legs still (of course) and you're not crazy trying other things besides the standard lower Sac rig. Get out... and bring your kids with you! Peter got some things to brag about to his dad... and your kids could too! Pete on the Upper McCloud No bobbers required! Pete's first fish on a fly rod was small, but memorable! Rubber legs eater... Caddis time! Pete found this under a rock. Wave to mom! Pete spotted two bucks grabbing a drink at the local bar. Thank God for ND filters... End of a good day...
