Southern Oregon: , by Luke Geraty: Klamath Basin w/ Dylan Woodrum: 4 stars I had an opportunity to fish with Dylan Woodrum up in the Klamath Basin, targeting trout on the Williamson and Wood Rivers. As we were working on a video project, it was imperative that we put some fish in the net and guess what? The Williamson and the Wood did NOT disappoint! Dylan's wife, Kim, joined us and we had a really great two days. This was the second time I fished the Williamson and the rumors continue to be true... there are some big fish in that river! Throughout the day we caught a number of fish, most being in the 18 to 24 inch size range. We were primarily swinging flies hand tied by Dylan and I must say that it was pretty impressive seeing pods of dozens upon dozens of BIG fish in various locations throughout the day. On our second day, we went to the Wood River. Both the Williamson and Wood Rivers flow into the Upper Klamath Lake, but the two rivers are pretty different. While the Williamson is a medium sized river and has riffles and pools and a fair amount of changing river characteristics, the Wood is your classic spring creek, surrounded by meadows. We used a variety of techniques, including both swinging small streamers and chucking the 'ole bobber with nymphs. One could have easily used a dry fly hopper, especially after a 16 inch redband dive bombed my indicator! We put a lot of fish in the net and had constant action throughout the morning and right up to getting off the river before I made my way back to Red Bluff. Dylan is a very friendly, knowledgable, and fishy guy, so you can't go wrong with booking a trip with him. His experience on Klamath Basin water was evident by the consistently productive guidance he provided throughout both days. While we will have a full Klamath Basin Fly Fishing video in the future, I put together a quick little River Report with Dylan that you can check out here: https://youtu.be/bjErXO8Q6Uc Dylan w/ a nice Williamson River Redband! Mrs. Woodrum putting fish in the net! The Wood River fishes excellent And there are brownies! A handful of trout, once again... The smoke making the sun look weird.
