Lower Sac: , by Luke Geraty: Fly fishing in Northern California at its finest!: 4 stars So last four trips on the Lower Sac were a lot of fun as the fishing has been generally pretty awesome. There have been plenty of doubles, some fairly big fish, and plenty of action throughout most of the day. The standard 10:30am until 3:30pm "bite" time has been taking place and some pretty epic PMD hatches have made the Lower Sac a really great fly fishing option as of late. You really need to book a day and get out! Most of my fish have been caught on various PMD patterns, the always-good-and-year-round-rubber-legs, sucker spawn (beads and yarn), caddis, and some other selections that I have to keep secret because I'm obligated by the the guide code of ethics. But on the real (or is it reel?), there are so many great flies you can use and when it comes down to it, if the fish are eating, they are eating. I love this time of the year because running two rubber legs is NOT crazy! We have also had some shots at rising fish, so throwing some dries is also very much an option. The river has been coming up lately and is currently flowing out of Keswick at almost 8,000cfs. Big difference from the winter flows that were under 3,000cfs and while the flow changes can definitely affect the fishing, with such a prolific amount of fish in our river, we can generally find fish. So as is my standard suggestion: get out and get to it! There are plenty of healthy trout out there to be caught. I've got availabile dates for the next few months on the Lower Sac and don't forget the Upper Sac! Let's do two days and you can experience the walk and wade game and the drift boat! A handful of trout! Doubles! A fine Nor Cal fish. Kevin Kay's new boat! Say cheese! Fat and healthy! Next 10 open days for Luke Geraty: Dec 18, Jan 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, 15, 22, 24, Feb 5 |
