McCloud River: , by Andrew Harris: Labor Day Fish Fest : 3 stars I just spent two days on the Nature Conservancy McCloud Preserve. The weather was perfect for a Labor Day getaway. Fishing pressure was very light on Saturday and a little heavier today. I had the pleasure of guiding some great kids from 10 to 16 years old this weekend. All four caught fish on their own, and one even landed seven fish in under three hours today! All of our action was on nymphs fished under indicators, although we did miss a couple grabs on a grasshopper dry yesterday afternoon. Our best flies were a red copper john size 14, pheasant tail size 16, black micro mayfly size 16, and a brown rubberlegs size 8.
I also spent a couple hours on McCloud Reservoir Saturday morning. Fishing was pretty good from the bank. I caught a really nice wild brown, a wild rainbow, and a few hatchery bows.
