Guided Lewiston Lake the past few days, fishing overall was a little tough, quite a few quality fish around but with chrystal clear water and not much of an appitite, we had to work for them. The bright spot was site fishing for beautiful Rainbow's in the 16"-20" rangeand had the lake mostly to ourselves, most of our success was had, spoting and site casting to individual fish and coaxing them with small leach patterns, watching the whole process unfold before you is pretty darn rewarding when you get that EAT ! Some up to 4lbs but hard to get to the net with 5X tippet...

I spent the last 3 days on Lewiston lake with Al & Emil, the fishing was stellar, most of the Rainbow's were in the 12 - 14 range with a few up to 16.  Lewiston should continue to fish well this Fall and even into the Winter depending on water temps. If you don't have time this Fall, book a trip for this coming Spring, April can be OUTSTANDING !

I fled the valley floor today to escape the wind but it didn't work.  I took my client Kent from Tehachapi to Lewiston Lake.  We had about an hour of good fishing before lunch when we could spot cruising fish.  Kent caught a couple of nice rainbows before the wind came up.  After that it was whitecap city.  We eventually moved over to the Trinity River where we saw numerous salmonflies, but we couldn't tempt any fish.

I guided Mike, David and Will on Lewiston over the 4th. The weather was perfect and the crowds minimal but the fishing was slow. We only managed to land 3 fish for about 4+ hrs of fishing, the fish we landed where caught striping various color small leaches on full sinking and intermediate lines.I saw very little insect activity, maybe due to a swinging barometer, the day before we had the most intense thunder showers here that I have seen here.I,m sure the fishing will improve.

I fished Lewiston over the weekend and it fished Very Good. The fish are spread out and not podded up like earlier in the season. The dry fly action is limited to VERY technical midge fishing to smutten trout, why not they have a billion midge to choose from. Swinging and stripping small leeches is a different story, the fish are aggressive and the takes solid. The grab has been solid from around 9 am to 3 pm and there is plenty of lake to find some solitude. I have often wondered whether the sores I have noticed on some fish were caused by Lamprey, last year I swore that I saw a fish swim by with a Lamprey attached, it was confirmed yesterday when I landed  a fat 16 rainbow with a fat 10 lamprey firmly attached. The water in Lewiston Lake does not warm up in the summer like most lakes in the state, the water stays cool all summer and the fishing will be consistent through the Fall.Get off the couch and book now!

I took clients Jerry and Jay up to Lewiston Lake today.  Fishing was a little slow in the morning, but the afternoon was excellent.  We found numerous pods of fish and some large solitary cruising fish.  We landed rainbows up to 20 inches and we also landed a couple of kokanee about 6 inches.  That was a first.  Almost all of our fishing today was sight fishing to cruising fish and pods of fish.  We had good luck with nymphs under indicators and dry fly and dropper techniques.

We took a break from steelheading today and fished for trout at Lewiston Lake.  The trout are cruising in large pods right now and we were able to do a lot of sight-fishing.  Dry & dropper worked very well for Burt, and his son Scott did really well with nymphs under an indicator.  Burt even had a few grabs on his dry fly.  This fishery will only get better as the weather warms up over the next two months.

I took the Confluence Outfitters advanced scouting team to Lewiston Lake today.  Conditions are perfect right now and I spotted many pods of fish.  There isn't much of a hatch yet, but the subsurface fishing should be highly productive.  Lewiston Lake is a great place to enjoy a relaxing day on the water.  We typically have high numbers of hookups with typical fish being 12-14 and the occasional fish up to 18 or 20.  February, March and April are my favorite months on Lewiston Lake. FYI, if you want to see tons of steelhead, take a drive up to the Lewiston fish hatchery below Lewiston dam.

I fished with Dave and Darryl from Redlands today.  We had a huge rainstorm yesterday and the river was pretty muddy in the Douglas City area this morning.  We passed on the steelheading today and fished Lewiston Lake instead.  The upper end of the lake was a little off-color in the morning, but the middle and lower part of the lake was very clear.  We boated around a bit and found some big pods of fish right away.  We spent the day casting our flies to visibly feeding trout.  Most of our fish came on small mayfly nymphs under indicators.  In the afternoon Dave landed a couple of fish on a dry fly.  Dave and Darryl boated at least 30 fish, with the biggest around 16.  It was a really fun day of fishing and catching in total solitude.

Lewiston lake fished well this past week, most fish were caught on small leach patterns, swung or stripped using an intermediate sinking line. Not much in the way of dry fly or nymph fishing, most of the naturals are super small...24-28'! Hopefully we will see more callibaetis during the day and or caddis in the evening.Lewiston Should continue to be productive well into the fall.

The fishing continues to be solid on Lewiston Lake. The lake has been heavily stocked with 12 Rainbow's, they were hot for the stripped wooly bugger and the dry-dropper rig when weather permited. The natives have pushed into the heavier current looking for easy prey, leeches swung on an intermediate line did the trick. Looking for the weather to stabilize and warm, with increased insect activity the natives should move back into the flats and offer some long awaited dry fly fishing!

The nymph grab over the last several weeks has remained solid with many double digit days. Mostly sight fishing to cruising Rainbow's 12- 20+. The dry fly bite hasn't been consistent yet but will most likely pick up over the next several weeks as the temps warm and the Spring release flows settle down.

Yesterday we caught about 50 pounds worth of fish at Eagle Canyon.  Today we caught about as much at Lewiston Lake, but we did it in twelve-inch installments!  Bob and Dave hooked a comical number of feisty, jumping rainbows today.  We were the only boat on the whole lake.  We fished about five different spots and found fish everywhere we went.  The highlight was sight-fishing to cruising rainbows with a dry-dropper rig.  Bob even hooked a few fish on a dry fly today.  The Lewiston fish like most any kind of nymph so long as it's small (size 16-20), black, and doesn't have a shiny bead or a lot of flash.  As for dries, a parachute adams size 16 works just fine.

I just spent two days on Lewiston Lake with Al and Emil from Sacramento.  They both caught a lot of fish.  The fish are fairly dispersed right now, but we were able to find some really concentrated pods as well.  Today was pretty incredible with plenty of sight-fishing.  We used indicator nymph and dry/dropper techniques all day.  Al hooked about five fish on dries and most of our grabs came on small black midge patterns.  We didn't find a lot of really big fish, but we more than made up for it with incredible numbers of hookups.

Dax and I did a fun scouting trip today to one of our local stillwaters.  The grab is on in a big way, as you can see from the photos.  We caught most of our fish on copper johns and pheasant tail nymphs under a small corkie indicator.  Email Dax or Drew for more info on this venue.

Randy Hamann and I spent the last two days scouting around in northern California.  Water may be high in the rivers, but they're not the only game in town.  Check out these photos. These fish were all caught on little nymphs underneath dry flies.  Most of it was sight-fishing, and we caught a LOT of them.  If you want to catch fish like this, give us a ring.
