Good Had a really nice day on the Lower Sac with Doug and the fishing started off pretty great! Doug landed a number of really nice 18-20" fish in the first couple of hours and there was definitely a bite going on. The fish were eating rubber legs, caddis, and the spherical baetis pattern ??Flows have been fairly steady inbetween 12,700 to 13,400 cfs throughout the days. Fish may still be a little unsettled but for the most part the river feels more stable than the past couple of weeks. While we got fish to eat caddis, we didn't see but a few. Saw a lot of PMD's but they didn't seem to be really keying in on those bugs with just a few grabs on mayfly imitations. What I'm really enjoying about the Sac right now is just how different it is with the flow change. It's such a change with more than double the flows and finding the fish is both a challenge and part of the fun.Anyway, the afternoon got pretty warm and the high sun seemed to slow fishing down and the grabs were less often in the afternoon in comparison to the morning. On a side note, Brian Kohlman and I are hosting a trip to Ascension Bay this next year and we would LOVE for you to join us on this multi-species trip! Plus we will have legit shots at permit! Find more info here: https://confluenceoutfitters.com/hosted-travel.aspx |
Good I just finished two really fun days with my guests John and Rob. John fishes with me quite a bit, but this was his longtime friend Rob’s first time. After the usual struggles, Rob got the hang of it and started hooking into some fish! The Sac has been pretty finicky lately with all the flow bumps and whacky spring weather, but the flows have remained consistent this week and the fishing is definitely improving. We’ve got some warm weather in the forecast, so now’s a great time to squeeze in your spring float on the Sac! |
Great Flows just dropped into great shape on the feather and we had a great day out there yesterday. Fish were chewing, clarity was excellent and there were plenty of fresh hot spring fish |
Okay With Shasta Lake full and snow pack at a massive level, flows on the Lower Sac have jumped up and as of this morning are 13,400cfs out of Keswick. The fishing has been up and down based on the flows and the fish are eating a variety of bugs and egg patterns, with PMD's more and more on the horizon due to the increased hatches happening around 11am every day. Should just get better and better! Now's a great time to book a float on the big river and we can cover a LOT of ground with these flows, making for a really fun day! |
Red Hot Few things are as fun as sight casting for permit, bonefish, tarpon, & snook! I'm pleased to announce that Brian Kohlman and I are hosting a trip to Ascension Bay in Yucatan, Mexico! We've secured the dates for a 7 nights / 6 days of fishing trip -- March 15-22, 2024. The fishing, ease of travel, and numerous testimonies about the quality of fishing and lodge have made this decision easy. What's the Fishing like? The Palometa Club is the premier lodge to chase permit, as their guides are experts at finding fish, knowing which flies to use, and how to present those flies! There are also loads of bonefish that are very willing to eat flies along with tarpon, snook, and a host of other species typical to saltwater flats fishing (jacks, sharks, barracuda, triggerfish, etc.. What's really unique is the guide to angler ratio; every boat has two guides; one for poling along the flats and the other to help spot fish, manage line, and help out with other issues that may arise. This is the permit capital and gives anglers the best chance at permit and "grand-slams" or "super-slams" (permit, tarpon, bonefish, & snook in one day). The weather is typical troplical climate and their season runs from January to September. What's the Lodge like? Unlike many simpler accomadations in the region, the lodge is tastefully decorated and equipped with 24 hour electric power, wireless high speed internet, super cool air conditioning, and effective mosquito control. There are six bedrooms, a fly tying study, library/living room, and a large dining room adjacent to the open kitchen. There are also several outdoor patios and a beautiful outdoor great to enjoy a cocktail at while sharing fish stories! We'd love to have you join us for this trip! We are limited to ten anglers, so book your spot today!Click here for more information. |
Good From Captain Bryce Tedford: I just finished a trip with buddies Steve & Patrick. We had a beautiful day with low winds, yet fishing was super tough in the morning. In the afternoon we finally found a group of fish including the nice one in the photo.

Great The warm weather has kicked the bass action on Lake Oroville into high gear!! They are aggressively eating flies on float n fly, streamers, and even some top water action. We have been having 30+ fish days and it should only get better from here. Quality has been excellent as well. We are rolling into peak season and it will run all the way through the end of May. |
Great I had two more really fun days with my guest John and a
group of his good friends. This was a
two-boat trip, and we played musical boat seats so the guys could all fish with
each other. The fishing was just
lights-out for us on Wednesday with the fish eating all our offerings. Thursday, we had a very slow start, but the
grab really turned on after lunch. Despite the slow morning, we ended up hooking into quite a few fish. The weather was ideal both days. The flows are starting to bump up and today
was the first increase to 4,500 cfs. |
Great Had a great day on the lower sac yesterday. Fish were chewing from our first spot to the last. We landed multiple doubles and some quality fish. Fish were eating pmds and sucker spawn and baetis primarily. They were eating pmds in the morning and then when the hatch got thick they doubled down on them and were eating them aggressively. Weather is stabilizing and going to be nice and warm in the 80s, spring is hard to beat on the big river. |
Great I always have a great time with my guests Lloyd and
Lee. The grab was on right away for us and
stayed very consistent throughout the day. The fish were happy with all our offerings, but most came on egg
patterns and PMD nymphs. We were
fortunate to have another beautiful day and I expect the fishing to remain as good,
or better through the end of May. |
Great The Lake is warming up and sending the bass up into shallower water and kicking the spring bite into high gear. I have attached some pics from trips out there over the last handful of days. We have been getting into good numbers of fish and the quality has been excellent. With temps reaching the 80s this week, it is only going to get better from here. May is an excellent month to catch them on float n fly, topwater and streamers. Nice weather and beautiful views coupled with aggressive fish makes for a fun day on the water. This is a great trip for anyone but also the best time of year to get a first timer or youngster out catching fish. I currently have April 20, 24 and 27 available and plenty of dates in May open for anyone who would like to get out there. |
Great I had a really fun day with my guests Dave and Steve. Our morning started off slow, but the grab really turned on after lunch! They both landed some very nice fish, in addition to a number of “cookie cutters.” We had great luck on egg patterns and PMD nymphs. The weather is beautiful and should remain pleasant through May. After our wonderfully wet winter, spring is a great time to get outside and catch some fish on the Sac! |
Good DJ and I hosted a family of four who had never been fly fishing. Everyone picked up on the technique pretty quickly but the long nymphing rig was still a bit much for 7 year old Dino. His mom did let him hold a fish and he got to eat a lot of gummy bears! His 10 year old brother did really well. Every kid is different but 9-10 is a good age to start kids fly fishing. We had a nice sunny day and picked up some great wild rainbows. |
Great I just finished two really fun days with my guests John and Devin. Spring fishing on the lower Sac is always very good and boy was it! The grab was on from the get-go and stayed very consistent all day on Tuesday. Today was slow to get started, but the bite really seemed to turn on after lunch. They had a couple of “doubles” and they both landed some really nice fish in addition to several lower Sac “cookie cutters.” The weather is finally spring-like, and the fishing is only going to get better. Now is the time to book your spring trip on the Sac with us! |
Good Today was a beautiful spring day in the sacremento valley! With blue skies 70 degree weather and beautiful wild rainbows Roy, Mike and I and a had great float! With an afternoon pmd hatch we got into some great fish and enjoyed the day. Fishing has been great on the lower sac and is going to stay great for a while! |
Great I fished with Mark last November so he brought his wife Christine down from Oregon for two days of spring fishing on the Lower Sac. The weather finally cooperated and we had great weather both days. We also had great fishing, with a pretty consistent bite both days and the fish eating a variety of flies. It's only going to get better from here on! |
Good I took Rick and his fishing buddy Nick out on the Lower Sac for a bit longer than a half-day drift. Morning was very slow but by early afternoon the fish woke up and we landed some beautiful wild rainbows. The weather is finally warming up so it's time to go fishing! |
Great Steve and Gary came up to fish the Lower Sac and we decided to concentrate our focus on the section of river that closes on April 1 until July 31. We were searching for big fish and by the end of the trip, the river did not disappoint! The first day was somewhat scratchy and we though we got some good fish in the net, it was by no means fantastic fishing. I think the cold front was still affecting the bugs and we were just drifting flies hoping for a grab. Nothing spectacular on day one. Day two, however, was a totally different story. The afternoon completely turned around and we ended up hooking so many fish we lost count. We did something like fifteen drifts in a row and hooked at least one fish on every single one of those drifts. It was like Disney land... over and over again on the ride we call the Lower Sac. The flies really didn't seem to matter as it was a mayfly / midge fest and by the end of the day, we were on cloud nine. What a difference a day can make! With the weather warming up and the bug activity to follow, the Lower Sac is going to just get better and better and we have nearly 45 miles of river to fish, so let's go! April and May are two of our favorite months! |
Great Today was a special day all around! From blue skies in the afternoon to multiple great steelhead today was a true spring day! With high flows from the dam and the tributaries running strong we were pleasantly surprised with how good the bite was today on both stonefly and egg imitations! |
Great Had a great day today with a single angler. Wally got after it and fished well and got into a lot of fish. Fish were eating sucker spawn and there was a sizeable PMD hatch after it warmed up. Weather is warming up and will be up into the 70s a week from Saturday. The warmer consistent weather is going to kick the hatches into high gear. We can expect to see pmds, caddis, yellow sallies etc going off big and the trout will be chewing. I am trying to fill April 2,4,5,12,13,17,20,21 let us know if we can get you out there. |
