California:
Trinity River
Lower Sac

Oregon:
Upper Rogue River
Applegate River
North Umpqua
Southern Oregon Coast

At Confluence Outfitters, our guides rarely take a break from steelhead fishing. We have great summer run fisheries like the North Umpqua, Upper Rogue, and Trinity River, plus great winter run destinations like the Oregon Coast and Applegate River. From July through April, we can put you on a steelhead.

Additional Destinations:
• Feather River

The Feather River between Oroville and Gridley has one of the best steelhead runs in California. Prime time is October-December, when steelhead are feeding heavily on salmon eggs. There is another run in the spring, peaking between March and May. We fish the Feather from drift boats.
• Yuba River
The Yuba River is a tailwater river near Marysville. The Yuba has excellent dry fly fishing for wild rainbows, and seasonal fishing for steelhead in the Fall and Winter. Best times are September through May. We float from the Highway 20 bridge to a private takeout at the Daguerre Dam.

Gear Recommedations:
Steelheading in Oregon: Sevens and eights are preferred in nine to ten foot lengths.
Steelhead fishing in California: Six through eight weight rods are great, with the seven probably being the best. Rods should be nine to ten feet in length.
Steelheading with Spey Rods: Most of our spey casting is done with seven and eight weight rods in 12.5 to 14 foot lengths. There are occasions for using lighter and heavier rods.
