Southern Oregon: , by Dax Messett: Chrome steelhead: 3 stars

I had my first winter steelhead guide trip yesterday on the Southern Oregon coast with Tony from Grants Pass. He hooked a nice wild hen on his 10th cast a mile away from tidewater, and it instantly ran him into his backing with an impressive series of leaps and cartwheels. Gotta love chrome winter fish. He hooked another later in the day, but we didn't bring it to hand. We worked on his speycasting and angling skills throughout the day, and rarely saw any other anglers. Pretty awesome start to the season.

We could use some rain to get the smaller rivers into shape, but the larger coastal rivers will get a few fish moving up every day, you just have to cover water and fish well to connect with these insane coastal fish. I don't have many available dates left for Oregon or the Olympic Peninsula, so book soon if you are interested. It's going to be a great season.
