I just finished up a trip with the Diablo Valley Fly Fishers.  These guys and gals made a lot of good drifts the last two days but the fish were elusive.  Bill King, the group leader, managed to land a beautiful fish the first day.  We are all hoping that the storm forecast for this weekend spikes the flows and brings in some new fish.  Right now 1 adult fish in a day per boat is a good day on the Trinity.

The conditions on the Trinity continue to be good with good air and water temps and clarity, still not a lot of Steelhead around though. There seems to be more fish upriver in the Lewiston to Bucktail area, down river the Steelhead seem to move through fairly quickly, if your in the right area at the right time you could have some pretty good fishing ! Over the past two weeks I've had days were we've hooked as many as 5 adults in a day to days were we didn't get touched. The weather forecast is calling for more rain over the coming week, hopefully that will jump-start the fishing a bit. Tight Lines.

Floated Bonny to Balls on Saturday, November 12th.  Had a blast with two beginners.  Fishing was good when it was warm out.  PMD's worked well in the morning.  Hooked what looked to be a steelhead above Haas Riffle (below Anderson River Park).  It jumped twice, one time esclipsing the sun and leaving us in total darkness before spitting the hook.

Took Ray and John down the Lower Sac on Saturday. Fishing was pretty slow most of the day. There were a couple of places where we ran into a few but for the most part a pretty inconsistent day.  With the shorter days now, we were treated to a great shot of the super moon over Mt. Lassen as we finished the drift. Still a great day.

The Trinity has been a  strange beast to tame this season. Some days fish normal while others have you scratching your head. Guided Doug and Ed from the Bay Area last weekend and both received gold stars for hooking up and landing a couple half pounders. "Do or do not there is no try!"

There are steelhead in the Trinity River.  Not a lot, but enough to enjoy some good fishing.  I had the pleasure of guiding buddies Bill and John the last couple days.  We landed a couple of "uber" half pounders plus a couple of adult steelhead.  Fishing pressure is light and the river is in great shape.  Flows are well above minimum levels due to tributary runoff.

I have given the fishing on the Trinity an "okay" rating but to be more accurate it's been everything from Slow to Great ! There are fish throughout the system but the numbers are not what we have seen over the past decade, reminds me of fishing the Trinity in the 90s, or better yet "Steelheading" not Trout fishing for Steeelhead. Some days we have zero encounters, other day's we have multiple encounters and bring several to hand. The only given is that you cant catch a Steelhead from your Couch ! Tite Lines !

Had the pleasure of guiding Matt & Bill from the Bay Area.  We played around with different variations of flies/egg imitations throughout the day and had the most action on small nymphs. We didn't tie into numbers, but all the rainbows landed were over 18". Not a bad day!

Randy Hamann and I guided the Lower Sac today up in Redding.  We had a great group of guys from the Bay Area.  Fishing was slow, but the weather was beautiful and most of the fish we hooked were quality fish.  It was father/son duo Brian and Dawson's first trip to the Lower Sac and they were really impressed with the size of the fish.  We had a couple big ones get away, including a 20+" fish on a dry fly.  There is a good mixed hatch of baetis and caddisflies in the afternoon.  Still some salmon around, too.

The Fly Fishing Film Tour is coming to Redding this Thursday November 3rd.  Confluence Outfitters is proud to be one of the main sponsors of the event which benefits our local Shasta-Trinity-Cascades Chapter of Trout Unlimited.  The show is at the Redding Convention Center and begins at 7pm.  We have donated a great raffle prize, a free trip for two to Eagle Canyon!  Come enjoy a good show, support a good cause, and buy some raffle tickets!

These photos are from the past two days.  Clients Jon and Armando fished with guide Steve Eadie on the Upper Rogue.  The Rogue has been blown out here and there but these guys had perfect timing and connected with some very nice steelhead.

I had the pleasure of guiding Ted, his big brother Jim (both are World Champion Wrist Wrestlers), Ted's son Zach, and his son-in-law Tommy.  The recent rains have helped to move some new fish into the Junction City area.  We fished hard for two days and were fortunate to hook into some really big fish both days!  Tommy crushed it on Friday.  He managed to hook three and land these two quality steelhead.  Jim was presented with the fish of a lifetime, but ultimately lost after a truely epic battle.  Ted and Zach both hooked into some really HUGE fish today.  Unfortunatly, their acobatic prowess left them empty-netted.  Ahh...the one(s) that got away!  We are blessed with this early season rain and I expect more fish to arrive in the coming days and weeks.  Let's go steelheading!

I just finished up 3 days on the Lower Sac.  Fishing has been quite a bit tougher this week now that the number of spawning salmon has started to decline.  We've had to work for our fish and fight some pretty nasty weather, too.  On Tuesday it was so windy we used the jet boat in the morning and wade fished, then did a short float in the afternoon in the drift boat.  Trying to get good drifts from the boat in high winds is no small task!  The weather and fishing improved a bit on Wednesday, with several nice fish up to 17" landed.  Today was the best day, despite a half inch of rain.  We struggled all morning, but then the nymph grab turned wide open from 2pm to 5pm and we landed some very nice fish up to 18".  We also had some hookups on dry flies.  The fish are settling back into a bug-eating mode now, although we still caught some fish on egg imitations.

I've had a late cancelation and some prime dates have opened, I have November 4th & 5th available for the Trinity, Lower Sac or the Lower Klamath if it drops into shape.

I spent the last 3 days on the Lower Sac with the Walker boy's from Virginia, the first two days working with BK, drifting the Sac in typical fasion. There are Salmon about but not in large numbers, we took are fish on both eggs and nymphs, they seem to be keying on small PMD and dark caddis nymphs. Today I guided the Father and Son group from my jet boat, wading a few spots away from the "mayhem" and despite a wet and blustery day we found plenty of fish to keep us entertained. We landed fish under the indicator on nymphs and eggs as well as on the swing. My sports were all new to this and did fairly well, I think some keen swing anglers would have "crushed it" today !

Wait ! was he wading when he caught that one ?!

The LS is continuing to fish terrific, the egg-grab is in full swing. Right now is a great time to fish the river. The salmon turnout has been disappointingly low but that hasn't stopped the rainbows from coming up!

Drifted with Doug and Jeff on Sunday down the Lower Sac, and like most of the reports you are reading, it did not disappoint. We had multiple hook ups with solid fish most of the day, although things got fairly quiet in the afternoon. Eggs were the thing, but also did some damage on small mayfly nymphs.  The theme for our boat on this day was hook'em, fight 'em, and release 'em without touching 'em. Good times.

I hosted a group from Sacramento on a great trip to the Burney/Fall River area.  The guys had a great time fishing the various waters that the area provides. We fished Burney Crrek, Hat Creek and the McCloud RIver. The only disappointment of the weekend was that the McCloud River was full of silt and off color enough to put the fish down.  Amazing Salmonfly hatch though.  Fishing was slow, but as always, the scenery was magnificent.  Every where else we went, the fishing was very good.

I spent a beautiful day on the Lower Sac with clients Claude and Steve.  Flows dropped about 300cfs overnight and that seemed to put the fish off the grab a little this morning, but fishing picked up mid-day.  We didn't land a ton of fish today but most of them were nice 18-20" fish.  A few more salmon on redds today it seemed.

Had a great time with Jadon on the LS last Friday. Rolled the dice with the storm and had an outstanding day out on the water. Most our fish were caught on egg imitations and nymphs including this 10+ pounder that gave Jadon a work out for what seemed like an eternity!
