Great Here are some photos from this Friday and Saturday. We have two dates available for solo anglers:March 3 (2 spots)April 10 (1 spot) We have five open dates left for groups of 2-8 anglers:March 12, 31April 6, 14-15 |
Red Hot We were pleased to host the Shasta/Trinity chapter of Project Healing Waters at Eagle Canyon today. This is a great group of veterans and they have a dedicated support staff of volunteers. This was the 3rd year that we have hosted this group and they always bring great weather with them! Fishing was good and our guests landed many 5 to 10 pound fish today. The program participants spend a lot of time tying flies and practicing casting and it really pays off when they have a chance to get out on the water. We hope to see this group again next year at Eagle Canyon |
Good After the last mega storm we have been encountering fish every day here on the southern coast. The smaller rivers are dropping out of shape already, getting very low and clear...but there are fish around. The Rogue and Chetco have been producing the last few days. A few days ago we enjoyed swinging flies in 70 degree weather, and hooked 4 steelhead...pretty unique for winter steelhead fishing. |
We have very few remaining open dates for the 2015 season. The following dates are good for groups of 2 to 8 anglers:March 3, 12, 31April 6, 10, 14-15March 10th has 2 open spaces. Right now that's the only date for a single angler to join another group. |
Red Hot Prime conditions right now at Eagle Canyon. We've been having mid-day Callibaetis hatches which the fish absolutely love. We've had everyone from complete beginners to charter fishing guides land steelhead sized trout. Bring streamers in chartreuse, white, black, pink as well as midges, prince-nymphs, micro-may's (olive & black) and sucker-spawn (yellow/Oregon-cheese). When your casting arm gets tired switch to a dry-dropper rig or small indicator with 2 or 3 small flies. Leave the sink-tips at home, floating lines work best here. |
Okay I had a great day today with Steve and his grandson Chris. The river is still off-color, but in less than a week the color has shifted from brown to green. The visibility is still limited, but it has definitely improved quicker than expected after the recent rains. The caddis are just starting to pop, but the fish haven't figured it out - but that can change tomorrow! The extended forecast is calling for more of this beautiful spring weather - which means the fishing is going to get better by the day! If you're thinking about booking your spring trip - don't wait! |
Good The Trinity fished very well for us today, steady action all day with adult Steelhead to 10lbs, got away!!! , 1/2 pounder's and browns to 20, a regular smorgasbord and very little pressure. Throw in an awesome beautiful warm day and it doesn't get much better!! Here are a few pics from the days action.... chunky brown spring time in mid February another wild one |
Great I had a great opportunity today to tag along on one of Gino's guide trips on the southern Oregon coast. It was a ton of fun. We floated one of our favorite rivers and landed 3 steelhead. I landed one of them - that makes two days in a row on this steelhead trip! Conditions are really good on these rivers right now. The smaller rivers should be good for at least ten more days without rain and the Lower Rogue will come into shape later this week. |
Good I just had a last minute cancellation and am available to guide Sunday & Monday. Rivers are in great shape and the weather forcast is excellent. Please contact me if you are interested. |
Good I landed my first ever Smith River steelhead today. I had another on, too. This fishery is very challenging with fly gear. I have never used as many split shot as I did today. It took anywhere from 4 to 6 7/0 shot to get the job done. A 7/0 shot is one size bigger than a 3/0, which is fairly heavy. This is an amazing river - come check it out some time. |

Great I will be featured on April Vokey's very popular new television show Shorelines, which appears on the World Fishing Network this next week. On Dish TV its channel 394, I'm not sure about other cable or satellite tv networks. The show features myself with good fishing buddies Darcy Bacha and Eric Jackson doing our thing in British Columbia.Check it out! Saturday at 8:30am/5:30pm/10pmTuesday at 5pm/9pmWednesday at 8am All the rivers on the Coast are dropping fast, and should be in great condition this weekend. My client hooked two yesterday... showtimes Eric Jackson, the best snowboarder in the world Darcy Bacha with a BC steely The film crew for shorelines |
Great We had 3 guests at Eagle Canyon today. They caught good numbers of fish despite high winds. Melanie from Cottonwood caught the biggest rainbow trout of her life today! Mel with a big rainbow Dave on the lower pond |
The much needed rain came, but didn't stop...everything is blown! Time to tie flies... |
Good The Shasta-Trinity Fly Fishers were at Eagle Canyon today. Here are a couple of photos. |
Great Here are some photos from today's Eagle Canyon guests. Remaining space is very limited this year. Here is a list of open dates:Feb 7 (1 spot)Feb 9Feb 11 (1 spot)Feb 24-25Mar 3Mar 9-12Mar 24 (1 spot)Mar 31Apr 6Apr 10Apr 14-15 |
Okay I guided Mike and Kathleen the last few days on the lower Rogue, they each hooked a dime bright steelhead today! This was the highlight for the past several days where fishing has been tough. Rain is coming tomorrow, which will help conditions, particularly on the smaller rivers which are low and clear. |
Good The Steelheading on the Trinity through the month of January has been fairly solid, the month started with some of the best fishing of the year and fresh winter steelhead have continued to filter in throughout the month. The weather has remained mild and looks like we have some rain on the way which should pick the fishing up a bit. Looking like the Steelheading should hold up through February and February typically has some of the best dry fly action of the year for both big wild browns and the occasional Steelie ! Wild Steel ! |
Good Our host Sam says fishing was really tough all morning. In the afternoon the fish went on the grab and white minnow patterns were the ticket. |
Good Here are some more photos from January 30th courtesy of our guest Jerry. |
