Great

Fun day fishing with good Confluence client, Steve Dalcin.     The egg bite is definitely on!     Steve also managed to land some nice trout on size 18 hooks.   Mid day, Steve learned to throw the two hander.  Great weather, great fishing and the river almost to ourselves!    What's not to love?

Drew and I fished the Lower Sac in Redding yesterday.  We swung flies, fished under an indicator, roped donkeys and had the river to ourselves all day long.

Fun day on the Trinity river, swinging flies in the canyon.   Jay swung up this beautiful wild on a fly named the "Willie Nelson" due to the fly's red head.    We also landed two other wild fish (not pictured). I'm seeing far more wild steelhead in the river this year, than hatchery fish!!   Wonder if it's concidence or due to the Trinity River Restoration Program?   Two storms heading to our North state today (Wednesday, 11/21) that should bring us rain for the next ten days.   Hopefully the runoff doesn't dump too much soot and ash into the Trinity or Lower Sac from this summer's Carr Fire.  Spoke with some friends who live on the lower Trinity and they think there's a lot of fish sitting in the Burnt Ranch canyon.   Should make for good fishing for the next month.  Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!!!

Steve and I had an awesome day fishing the Balls to Jelly's float today, catching all the trout we wanted and a salmon in the Barge Hole as a bonus.   Beautiful weather, good company and great fishing makes for big smiles on the river!

Mark and I had a lot of fun fishing the lower Sac these last two days.   On Father's Day, Mark and I fished the lower river to avoid the crowds.  We caught several nice trout between 12 and 16" with the river to ourselves.  In the evening, we threw the spey rod in the Barge Hole.   On Monday, Mark and I fished the top section in Redding and hammered on some big Rainbows.  Mark landed two fish over 20", with one being around 24".  We also fought and lost several other beautiful Rainbows in this size range.   The weather right now is perfect in Northern California.  It's making for some great days on the river!   Thank you, Mark, for two fun days of fishing the Sac!

Steve and I had an awesome time fishing two days together on the Lower Sac.   The first day we fished from Anderson River Park and took out at the Barge Hole down low.   The river fished good to great all day with constant action and no other boats on the river.   Steve caught a beauty below Cottonwood Creek in the clays.   On the second day, I made the mistake of taking us up top - fishing from Posse to Anderson.    I got my butt kicked but Steve did great - maximizing his opportunities and laughing the entire time.  The lower Sac cookie-cutter (12 inch fish) all seem healthy but some of the larger trout (18-22 inches) can be pretty skinny probably due to last winter's floods that cleared-out a lot of the aquatic bug life in and around Redding.   If you catch a big one and want a photo opt, keep 'em wet as long as you can and be sure to revive 'em after!    Thanks, Steve, for a great couple of days!

Fun day on the Lower Sac with Nate and his dad.   Nate was 8.   Nate was great.    He could barely see over the bow of the boat but he fished almost a complete day, learned to cast a 7 weight, mend, set the hook and strip in his first trout on a fly rod under some relatively slow fishing conditions.   His dad was teaching him, "an attitude of gratitude" and it was awesome to watch.  The heat on the river isn't too bad and nobody is fishing the lower Sac right now out of Redding.   This father, son duo with the right combo of attitude and nobody on the river had an awesome day!

Fished the Trinity for 3 days with two different sets of clients.   Fished from Steelbridge to Pigeon Point.   Averaged about 3 hookups per day with most guides reporting similar numbers.   We lost several large fish over those three days, but the pursuit was a lot of fun.  The fish are in and they're selective.  River was blowing out even above Weaver Creek on Wednesday, 1/18.  If you're fishing the Trinity tomorrow (1/19), may the force be with you....

Happy New Year!  Fished the Calfornia coast under an indicator over the New Year under relatively high water conditions.  Fished two days with fish around and gear chuckers makin' me look bad pullin' fish out of deep runs.  Drew landed this beautiful, wild hen with a full belly that did some moonlighting as an acrobate. Water looked great for swinging! Nice way to bring in the New Year.   Happy 2017 to all!

Good times on the Trinity after this latest storm blew-out the river for a couple of days.   Landed three adults, one nice wild buck with a kype jaw put up a great fight with long, impressive runs.   One hatchery fish made the dinner table.  Lots of laughs on the river under blue skies.

Guided the Trinity for a couple of days swinging flies and when the temps dropped, we switched to indicator. Hooked five adults with one angler. One fish we lost in Junction City was a very quality Trinity fish!

Both indicator and spey fished the main stem of the Eel on Tuesday, December 6th.  Client got one grab swinging.   On Wednesday, December 7th, to avoid what I thought would be a windy day, we left the main stem for the sanctuary of the South Fork and while the water was perfect, it was a bit early to find steelhead that high up.   The following day the coast was blown.

Floated Bonny to Balls on Saturday, November 12th.  Had a blast with two beginners.  Fishing was good when it was warm out.  PMD's worked well in the morning.  Hooked what looked to be a steelhead above Haas Riffle (below Anderson River Park).  It jumped twice, one time esclipsing the sun and leaving us in total darkness before spitting the hook.
