If you like big water, jet boats, dramatic scenery, and chrome fish, come fish the Lower Rogue. We love it for all those reasons. We have access to the lower 50 miles of river, including the ability to run our jet boats up into the Wild and Scenic section. From there to the mouth at Gold Beach, water types transform from channelized ledge rock to large sweeping gravel bars. Several of our clients have compared quality of water, the scenery, and the feel of the Lower Rogue to B.C. rivers. We like to think of it as a super highway for fish, giving them access to several large and dozens of smaller tributaries. Thousands of steelhead and salmon ascend the Lower Rogue every year. We guide this part of the river in the fall and in the winter. In the fall, we are chasing summer steelhead, fall Chinook, and Silver salmon.

The “Trifecta” By the middle of September, Silver Salmon have joined the summer Steelhead and Fall Chinook in their upriver migration. This is a unique opportunity for anglers to target all three species in one trip. We target the salmon just out of tidewater as they come in for their first taste of the Rogue. Hooking a chrome bright salmon on a fly is a rare opportunity in the lower 48, and we have a lot of experience doing it. Using traditional swing tactics, we have had good success enticing Chinook in excess of 40 lbs and the occasional Silver. The quality of these fish is superb. To target summer steelhead, we head upriver towards and into the Wild and Scenic section. Steelhead and their half-pounder little brothers are holding in what we consider some of the most interesting and classic swing water that exists. Volcanic ledge-rock, boulder strewn runs, bedrock shelves, and glassy tail-outs are prevalent. The Trifecta season is September and October.
Gear Recommendations for the Lower Rogue

Rods, Reels & Lines:
We use 7-9wt spey rods on the Lower Rogue. We fish floating lines on the switch rods and interchangeable tip Skagit lines on the spey rods.

Leaders, Tippet & Indicators:
We usually use 10-15# Maxima tippet on the Lower Rogue. Tapered leaders are not necessary.

Waders & Boots:
We use chest-high breathable waders on the Lower Rogue. Spiked wading boots are recommended, but not absolutely necessary. Make sure to bring your own wading belt.

We typically meet our clients at their hotel at 7:30am.

Vehicle Considerations:
Typically we have our clients ride with us in our own vehicles. However, be prepared to follow us in your own vehicle. We may need to use your vehicle to help run our shuttle.

Wading difficulty:
All trips involve wading. The wading on these rivers is mostly over cobble bottoms and not overly challenging.
